Our History...how we got here and where we are going...

1967-present

In September 1967, Rev. Robert Duddleston, pastor of Faith Lutheran church in Kinston, started visiting families in the Goldsboro area. Realizing the need for a Lutheran church in Goldsboro, Pastor Duddleston united the families in services held at the Moose Lodge.

On January 28, 1968, Peace received its name at an organizational meeting held in Kinston. The first service was held in February 1968. In September of that year, the members of Peace began special projects to raise money to purchase land for their own building. The land was purchased in January 1969 and ground breaking for that building took place in September of that same year. On December 25, the members of Peace rejoiced at the Lordโ€™s birth in their very own sanctuary!

Rev. Burke Hill was installed as the first full-time pastor of Peace on April 4, 1971 and he served the congregation with Word and Sacrament until 1978.

Rev. Allen Dienert was installed on Feb 3, 1980 and served until 1987.

Peace remained vacant from 1987-1993 and was served by various pastors including Rev. Keith Lee and Rev. John Rickert, both from Our Redeemer in Wilson, NC, as well as Rev. Ron Fletcher of Faith Lutheran in Kinston.

On August 1, 1993, Loren Zell was placed as a vicar at Peace. He was ordained and installed as pastor on July 17, 1994. He remained until February 1997.

This vacancy was short-lived as Rev. Michael Thress was installed on July 13, 1997. He served Peace through December 2000.

Two years later, on February 3, 2002, after much prayerful consideration, Peace Lutheran Church decided, with Our Redeemer Lutheran in Wilson to share a pastor, jointly calling Pastor John Drosendahl. Pastor Drosendahl faithfully served Peace Lutheran Church and Our Redeemer Lutheran in Wilson until March 2021.

Peace Lutheran has been in vacancy since March 2021; but served dutifully by visiting pastors, Rev. Dr. William Seaman, Chaplain Gregory Williamson, Rev. Alan Shaw, and Rev. Ron Fletcher.

June 1, 2025 Rev. Alan Shaw will come to Peace Lutheran Church as their resident TIM (Transitional Intentional Minister).ย  During this time Rev. Shaw will bring to Peace Lutheran Church and the Goldsboro, NC area the Word and Sacrament.
